English Abstract
The book "Entity Modelling: The Third Generation of Cataloguing" by Tiziana Possemato investigates the evolution of information organization from traditional catalog records to entity-centric modeling. It explores the transition from "strings" to "entities," utilizing semantic web technologies and linked open data to make library metadata machine-understandable. The author provides a multidisciplinary foundation, drawing on philosophy (ontology and metaphysics) to define entities and identities, computer science (object-oriented programming) for entity resolution, and library science for practical cataloguing rules. A significant portion of the work is dedicated to identifying ontological and identity breaks, using complex cases like the names of popes and continuing resources to demonstrate how entities persist or change over time. Furthermore, it details the Share-VDE initiative and the development of the 'Opus' entity as a functional extension of models like BIBFRAME and IFLA LRM.
