English Abstract

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Information Economics, emphasizing the central role of information as a strategic resource in the contemporary knowledge-based economy. It examines the historical evolution of information economics from the Industrial Revolution to the digital era and analyzes information as the fourth factor of production and a primary source of value creation, innovation, and competitive advantage. The book explores major topics including information costs, information asymmetry, adverse selection, moral hazard, signaling, screening, bounded rationality, informational risk and uncertainty, market efficiency, organizational information systems, information and communication technologies (ICT), digital business models, information valuation, and the legal and ethical dimensions of the information economy. Drawing upon the seminal contributions of George Akerlof, Michael Spence, and Joseph Stiglitz, together with practical examples from the digital economy, the book offers a coherent analytical framework for understanding the functioning of modern information-driven markets. It serves as a valuable resource for students, researchers, managers, policymakers, and professionals interested in information economics, digital transformation, and knowledge-based economic systems.
