کتاب «اقتصاد آزمایشی: نظریه و عمل» اثر جان ای. لیست (John A. List) به معرفی جامع مبانی نظری، روش‌شناسی و کاربردهای اقتصاد آزمایشی می‌پردازد و نشان می‌دهد که چگونه آزمایش‌های کنترل‌شده می‌توانند برای آزمون نظریه‌های اقتصادی، تحلیل رفتار انسان و ارزیابی اثربخشی سیاست‌های عمومی مورد استفاده قرار گیرند. نویسنده با تشریح تفاوت میان آزمایش‌های آزمایشگاهی، آزمایش‌های میدانی و آزمایش‌های طبیعی، مزایا و محدودیت‌های هر روش را بررسی کرده و نقش آن‌ها را در توسعه اقتصاد تجربی تبیین می‌کند. کتاب موضوعاتی همچون ترجیحات فردی، انگیزه‌ها، همکاری، رقابت، تصمیم‌گیری تحت ریسک، طراحی بازار، اقتصاد رفتاری و ارزیابی سیاست‌های اقتصادی را با تکیه بر شواهد تجربی تحلیل می‌کند. همچنین، اصول طراحی آزمایش، اعتبار درونی و بیرونی، روش‌های نمونه‌گیری، تحلیل داده‌ها و ملاحظات اخلاقی پژوهش‌های آزمایشی به‌طور نظام‌مند مورد بحث قرار گرفته است. این اثر با پیوند میان نظریه اقتصادی و شواهد تجربی، نشان می‌دهد که اقتصاد آزمایشی چگونه به بهبود پیش‌بینی رفتار اقتصادی و طراحی سیاست‌های مؤثرتر کمک می‌کند و منبعی ارزشمند برای دانشجویان، پژوهشگران و سیاست‌گذاران در حوزه‌های اقتصاد، علوم اجتماعی و سیاست‌گذاری عمومی به شمار می‌رود.
